Welcome to the Custom Book Studio blog — a place to share what happens between a manuscript and a finished, bound book.
Custom Book Studio is a short-run book printing and design studio in Toronto. We share a production facility with Flash Reproductions near the airport, so the design desk and the press floor sit under one roof — the people who lay out your book are steps away from the machines that print and bind it. The studio was founded by Mark Lacaria, a printing and publishing veteran, and is a division of Interactive Computer Solutions.
What you’ll find here
- Print & bindery know-how — paper stocks, binding styles, and how those choices show up in the finished book.
- Preparing your files — practical tips for getting artwork and text press-ready the first time.
- From the studio — projects we’re proud of, and what we learn making them.
Short-run, done properly
Short-run doesn’t mean cutting corners. Whether it’s a single proof or a few hundred copies, every book gets the same attention to trim, spine, and finish that a full print run would. We’d rather make one book beautifully than a thousand carelessly.
Thanks for reading — more to come. If you’ve got a book in mind, we’d love to hear about it.
